It feels right

Hope you enjoy the read! : )

How about stop seeing it as discipline? You don’t need that to achieve what you want.

Discipline. Discipline, discipline, discipline, discipline.

I bet everyone is fed up with this word. I don’t really use social media (Except discord if you count that) but I believe a lot of people there talk about it. And I REFUSE to do the same old yada yada yada speech that to achieve what you want, you need to be disciplined and all that boring stuff. No. I want to make my posts special.

So what are we talking about today? My perspective on the matter, which is:

If you want to get good at something, just do it everyday.

Now I know what you might be thinking… “Erm, Tayrone, that’s why you need to be disciplined. To do the thing everyday”

I get that. BUT, if you need discipline to do something, that means you’re struggling with it, and you actually don’t need to struggle all that much.

This might be a longer post so sit tight.

I’m going to talk about my case here for a while.

When I was 15, I attended the gym twice a week, not much I know, but then I had to move to a place where there were no gyms anymore. So I wasn’t moving much.

After some time I thought to myself: “Why don’t I just exercise with my body’s weight everyday?”

Like… So that I can finish the day, I had to do this mental task of exercising. To make it easy not to ever forget, I always exercise before showering.

Cool, I started exercising, about 20 minutes per day, with time I added more exercises and got better at old ones, changing stuff. And you know one thing? It was never a struggle for me, I still do this everyday

I believe the reason why it wasn’t a struggle was because it was something I set up to do by myself, alone, without even telling anyone, and it was my rules. The mental checkbox was only checked if I did what I felt like I had to.

I swear to you, it was harder NOT to exercise.

Would you call that discipline? I just did everyday what I felt like I had to. The feeling of not doing it was worse than actually being there. I don’t know if I would call that discipline.

Maybe it’s also the fact that I see myself as someone very loyal, not fulfilling the task would be treason.

I hope you understand what I’m saying here. Just do what FEELS right. Set your own rules, your own mental daily tasks. For me, picking a certain time of day where I KNEW I could do the thing constantly worked, maybe for you too, maybe not, just do what feels right.

It’s your life, and for plenty you can set the rules.

I could end it right here but another good example is this blog. I post every day. I’ll post everyday until I feel like I don’t need to anymore. My time of day working here starts at about 16:30. I know at this time I can always write, so I do. I like what I do. It feels right. I don’t need discipline to work here.

I don't need discipline to work on a BUNCH of others projects. Projects that I work on everyday.

Hope you enjoyed the read and hopefully it’ll help you do whatever you want : )

All the best to you! See you tomorrow!
